Child/Adolescent (ages 6-17)
Does your child or adolescent seem sad and unhappy? Is your child or adolescent anxious or overwhelmed? Are behavioral issues interfering with relationships and successes? As children and adolescents continue to grow and develop, they experience changes in their thinking, mood, and overall behavior. During these periods of change, it can be difficult for families to know if this is “normal” or if it is something else that is impacting the child/teen. That is where I can help. Therapy begins with an initial assessment. It allows the opportunity for all of us to get to know one another and it allows me to collect a history of the problem or concern. We discuss the benefits of working together and a plan for change is developed. Therapy will allow children/teens and families to learn more about themselves, their strengths, and their path towards conquering the challenges ahead of them.
College Students/Young Adults
College is difficult. Being on your own for the first time can be scary. There are responsibilities, bills, and a level of independence that you have never had before. There is a pressure to succeed while still balancing a personal life/social life. Maybe you don’t know what you want to be “when you grow up.” You don’t have to go through it all alone. Seeking therapy can help improve your quality of life now and for years to come. If you are unsure of how to manage or move forward, I am here to help you work through these feelings.
Have you ever heard, “Wow, you should really talk to someone about that?” There are so many misconceptions about seeking mental health services. Primarily, it is suggested that asking for help is a sign of weakness or something to cause shame. The truth is therapy is incredibly useful for so many reasons. Yes, it can address bigger issues like severe depression and trauma for example, but it can also offer aid in times of transition, when you are feeling like you are losing control, when you are experiencing tension in relationships, or just because you want to explore your overall well-being. Seeking therapy can help improve your quality of life now and for years to come. If you are unsure of how to manage or move forward, I am here to help you work through these feelings.
Maternal Mental Health
You are pregnant or just had a baby…now what? You know that this is supposed to be the “happiest time of your life.” However, you are tired, overwhelmed, sad, and anxious. You may feel like you are struggling to bond with a baby or may even think that this was a horrible mistake. There are numerous emotional, physical, and psychological stressors that are present during this time. Stressors such as changes in hormones, professional and personal roles change, tension in relationships with others, possible health complications. You and/or your spouse/partner do not have to go through this alone. I have extensive education, training, and experience in working with many aspects of prenatal mental wellness, including prenatal and postpartum mood/anxiety disorder, birth trauma, adjustment to parenthood, and overall childhood development. I have completed training through Postpartum Support International and I am a member of Postpartum Support International. I am currently working towards Perinatal Mental Health Certification.
