Online Therapy for Teens
Do you ever look at your teenager and wonder what happened to the happy-go-lucky kid you used to have? Maybe you wonder where this surly thing with an attitude came from? Perhaps you notice that your teen is withdrawn and spending much of their time alone in their room, or they have lost interest in things that they used to enjoy. Do they seem more cranky and irritable? Maybe you feel that they are sleeping too much or perhaps not enough. Maybe they used to talk to you about everything, but now it feels like they don’t share anything at all with you. You know that something is going on, but you aren’t sure what it is, and you feel like you don’t know how to help them.
Maybe you are the teenager, and you wonder why everything feels so much more difficult than it used to. Sometimes you look around at all the other kids at school and wonder where exactly you fit in? Or maybe you say to yourself, my problems really aren’t that big of a deal. Have you tried to convince yourself that nobody would really care about your social difficulties or the fact that you are suddenly overwhelmed by school assignments, extracurriculars, chores at home, or whatever else you have going on in your world? You know that you don’t really feel like yourself, but you aren’t sure which way to turn. Maybe you feel like your friends won’t understand or that they will just brush you off? Or, that your parents will think it is all trivial and silliness. So, instead of speaking up, you keep it all to yourself, and you feel like you have nowhere to turn.
It’s really tough being a teenager. You aren’t really a kid anymore, but you aren’t quite an adult either. It kind of feels like you are stuck in this weird limbo, and it feels impossible to figure out which way is up. You are still trying to figure out who you are, where you belong, and what your future might look like.
People are constantly telling you what to do, when to do it, and how to get it done. Maybe it is starting to feel like everyone else knows what is best for you. But, has anybody really even stopped to ask you? Perhaps you wonder when your opinion will start to matter.
Remember when life felt super simple? Your biggest challenges were what games to play or who to sit with at lunch? Now, it feels like everything is so heavy, the decisions are so big and important, and you don’t’ know which way to turn. People are constantly telling you that every decision you make now decides the entire fate of your future. Oof – that’s a lot!
Maybe you are struggling to keep up with school – there is so much homework, tests every day, and pop quizzes. Who decided pop quizzes were ever a good idea? It seems like there is just never enough time to get everything done.
And the pressure….so much pressure. There are so many expectations – to be the perfect student, the perfect friend, the perfect child. Deep down you know that there is no such thing as perfection, and you are over trying to pretend like you have it all together.
It is okay to feel lost…
It is ok to feel confused…
It is ok to feel overwhelmed…
It is ok to have questions…
